One O’clock
Jam Competition
One O’clock
Jam Competition
At the heart of The Jam Factory beats the rhythm of One O’Clock Jam, a unique and spirited dance competition that brings two dancers face to face in a celebration of movement, music, and improvisation.
Far from a traditional battle, One O’Clock Jam is an artistic exchange: one dancer vs. another, each responding in turn to two tracks—one smooth R’n’B tune, followed by an electrifying swing number. The dancers must adapt, converse, and connect with the music—and with each other—on the spot.
Judges decide the winner of each round immediately by raising a flag to signal their choice, adding an element of spontaneity and raw energy to every performance. There’s no second-guessing—just rhythm, instinct, and expression.
But for renowned dancer and teacher Vincenzo Fesi, this is more than a competition:
“I don’t see it like a battle, but like a jazz conversation in jazz. There’s no space for battle in this contemporary world, but just a conversation dancing.”
At the end, only one dancer wins—not a trophy, but something far more meaningful: a scholarship to continue their journey by studying at another swing or jazz festival.
One O’Clock Jam isn’t just about winning. It’s about connection, creativity, and carrying the spirit of jazz forward—one conversation at a time.
